Golf Tips For Links Golf

1. The putter is the preferred short game instrument and can be your best friend. If you have the opportunity, putting from off the green avoids wind and keeps you from hitting difficult chip shots from tight lies.

2. Links golf is known for tight lies and difficult turf conditions in the fairways carrying through to the greens. Therefore, it is important to avoid excessive wedge and flop shots.

3. Use the "Bump and Run" shot as much as you can. The "Bump and Run" shot is not a punch shot and it produces more of a knuckle shot with no spin. By using a 7-8 or 9 iron it is a great shot to play when excessive wind is up and conditions are fast and hard.

4. When driving into the wind, play the ball slightly forward in your stance and work on a sweeping motion, which produces less spin and a lower launch angle.

5. Avoid the bunkers! Links style bunkers are meant to be penal. It might even be necessary pitch the ball out sideways or backward to escape more problems.

6. Most golfers underestimate wind and slight elevation changes. Hillside lies will accentuate the angle and direction of the ball when hitting into the wind. Consider taking a club or two more to reach the green.
